Human Metapneumovirus

China has experienced several Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) cases five years after the COVID-19 pandemic.

HMPV was identified in 2001. Respiratory Syncytial Virus is its relative. Serological studies, on the other hand, show that the virus has been found in people for more than 60 years and is spread worldwide.

HMPV virus can cause upper and lower respiratory illnesses in people of all ages. People with weak immune systems, small children, and older people are particularly susceptible.

A Shanghai lung expert told the state-run National Business Daily that patients shouldn't take antiviral treatments without knowing more about the virus because there is no vaccine, and its symptoms resemble colds.
